He was born on June 11, 1942 in Redman, Kentucky to Connie & Katherine (Wheeler) Pottinger. He married the former Carolyn Hillyer on August 22, 1980. She survives.
Earl (Paw) was a passionate man who enjoyed tinkering with all sorts of things. He could make you new shelves out of scraps , add cup holders to car seats, and turn a ugly bike into something fashionable and "cool".
He was a hardworking, family man. Paw was extremely loving and proud of his wife, Carol Pottinger of 38 years. His 2 children Steve Mills and Kimberly (Brian) Wicks. His daughter - in - law Marcia Hale. His 3 grandchildren , Matthew, Mason and Summer Mills. His 4 great grandchildren Mya, Brantley and Savanha Mills and Keefer Herzog. That's not to exclude his "College Kids" Sophie, Oscar and Daisy, his dogs. Also sisters: Wilma (Jerry) Lewis of Ancona and Nancy (Gary) Hillyer of Long Point and a brother, Michael (Connie) Pottinger of Streator.
Those who knew him will never forget him. The light in his eyes, his charming smile and most of all his whistling. You would hear him whistling before you ever saw him. He helped many people out all the time, especially his family. He was a giver not a taker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Arnold, William and Elliot Pottinger and sisters: Juanita Cook Betty Wulzen and Janet Philippi.
He attended Woodland High School and retired from Caterpillar in Aurora after 33 years in 2010.
He loved to tinker with cars, his house and lawn work. He was known as “Mr Fix-It”
