STREATOR- Anita Ann Gwin, 92, of Streator died Monday morning (Aug. 6, 2012) at Heritage Health, Streator.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator with Rev. Mark Geisler, officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30 AM Saturday at Hagi Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Brian Patterson, Brad Patterson, Todd Gwin, Troy Gwin, Neal Gwin, Kelly (Gwin) Fleming, Kurt Cole, Erich Missel, Thomas Gulo, Jonathon Gulo and Michael McCauley,
Mrs. Gwin was born Oct. 2, 1919 in Streator, the daughter of James and Cecile (Murphy) Dixon. She married John D. Gwin, Nov. 30, 1938 in Joliet. He preceded her in death Aug. 8, 1985.
She attended Streator grade schools and was a graduate of Streator High school, class of 1937.
Anita was a homemaker who had a “green thumb” and was known for her excellent baking skills.
She was a great supporter, volunteer and member of the Christ Episcopal Church. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth’s Guild, a member of the church’s vestry and a Sunday School Teacher for many years.
A tireless, selfless volunteer of the community, Mrs. Gwin was a Brownie Leader, Girl Scout Leader, Den Mother; Volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital and contributed countless hours to the YMCA as a “Swim Team” mom.
She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who loved all of her grandchildren unconditionally.
She is survived by three daughters, Gloria (Scott) Patterson, Streator, Carole Gwin (Gulo), Morris and Ginny (Mike) McCauley, Streator, two sons, Gregory Gwin, Bloomington Indiana and Timothy Gwin, Palestine Texas, eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Nancy Cole, one granddaughter, Lindsay Gulo, one grandson, Patrick McCauley, two sisters, Camilla Estvanik and Louise Phelps, one brother, Judge Walter Dixon.
