Ardena L. Riss, 93 of Streator passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the Arc of Streator.
Ardena was born June 29, 1931 in Deer Park Township, LaSalle County, IL, a daughter of Francis and Zelda (Hammack) Fowlie. She married Robert Riss on January 10, 1950 in Streator. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2004.
She is survived by two sons, Gary (Pam) Riss of Streator and Terry (Laurie, deceased) Riss of Oregon, WI; 4 grandchildren, Jessica Riss Waltrip, John Riss, Bradley Riss, and Gregory Riss; and 1 great grandson, Lucas Waltrip.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; a brother, Phillip Frowlie; a sister, Alice Schmieding; and a daughter-in-law, Laurie Riss.
Ardena and her husband farmed in the Rural Streator area. She was a former member of the Blackstone United Methodist Church and a current member of the First United Methodist Church in Streator.
Ardena was an avid quilter and a member of the Knot A Stitch Quilters. She hand-quilted numerous quilts over her lifetime. She was also very prolific as a knitter and crocheter, producing many afghans for family members. She was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and enjoyed reading mystery books. She regularly attended trivia nights with her family and friends, always providing treats for the table.
Ardena and her husband took many fishing trips. Many vacations were spent in Mercer, Wisconsin on Spider Lake. Other locations included the Great Lakes, Alaska, Canada, and Costa Rica, along with many destinations in the U.S.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Streator.
