Bernard “Ben” L. Majercin, 84, of Streator passed away at 1:12 AM Thursday (April 19, 2018) at his residence.
A memorial visitation will be held from 10:30 AM – 11:15 AM Monday (April 30, 2018) at the Hagi & Baker Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 AM Monday at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Rev. Raymond Guthrie will officiate. Military rites will be held following the Mass by Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and Streator Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
Interment will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery.
He was born on February 5, 1934 in Streator to John & Catherine (Popovich) Majercin. He married the former Sandra Francis on August 19, 1967 in Ottawa. She survives.
He is also survived by sisters: Teresa (Harry) Willever of Cupertino, CA and Frances Uhren of Waco, Texas; nieces and nephews: Anita Smith, Sally Roach, David & Doug Pshak and Mickey Majercin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Edward, John and James Majercin; a sister Virginia Sereg and brother in-laws: Robert Uhren and Paul Sereg.
He graduated from Streator Township High School and then served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He worked at I.T.T. Dewline and retired from Streator Township High School as a custodian.
He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, the Streator Moose Family Center, a life member of Streator Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 and a member of Streator Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217.
Ben loved to watch basketball especially the Boston Celtics. He loved fishing and visiting Branson, MO. He played basketball during High School. He was a loving husband to his wife of over 50 years. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Memorials may be directed to Streator Township High School for their scholarship fund or to the American Cancer Society or St. Michael’s School.
