STREATOR-  Gladys I. Burkett 87 of Streator died Saturday afternoon (Sept. 22, 2012) at Heritage Health, Streator.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator with Rev. Gavin Finefield, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Tuesday at Hagi Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Streator.
Mrs. Burkett was born Jan. 2, 1925 in Manville the daughter of Robert and Anna Pearl (Linn) Briner.
She married Floyd W. Burkett July 4, 1941 in Canton MO. He preceded her in death Oct. 11, 2007. He attended Kangley Grade School and Streator High School. Gladys was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church, Streator. She was a member of UMW Sally Smith Circle and Chi Beta Class. She also taught Sunday school for 20 years. Gladys coordinated many weddings, anniversaries and other parties at the church. She and Floyd were married for 66 years and spent most of their married life at 1115 Sundown St. Gladys was a kind and caring person who always put others before herself and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved to cook, bake and sew and truly loved the lord.
She is survived by one daughter, Beth (Mark) Berosek, Streator, one son, Richard (Karen) Burkett, New Castle PA, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two sisters, Thelma Jenson, Arizona and Roberta (Robert) Bethard, Peru and two brothers-in-law, Gail Bethard and Robert Bethard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Kenneth Burkett, one sister, Delores Bethard and one brother Robert “Bobby” Briner.
Pallbearers will be Mark and Jonathan Berosek, Christopher Hoy, Harlan Elson, Arthur Burkett and Larry Bethard.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or First United Methodist Church.
