Joan Missel Niles

Joan Missel Niles, 95 of Bloomington formerly of Streator, passed away Monday, December 19, 2022, at Luther Oaks Healthcare, Bloomington, in the loving attendance of family.

Joan was born July 25, 1927, in Streator, a daughter of Arminta Tucker Missel and Ervin Edward Missel.  She married Robert B. Niles on April 21, 1946, in Streator. Preceding her in death was husband, Robert, on July 9, 2010, both parents, one daughter, Sandra Niles Gordon, and one grandson, Robert Nelson, 8 brothers and 2 sisters have also preceded her.  

Surviving is one son, Terry (Jeanette) Niles of Humble, TX; three daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Bresney and Cindy Jennings both of Normal, and Janice (Burkhard) Zittinger of Munich, Germany; 14 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and one brother, Ronald Missel, also survive.

Joan was a member of Central Church of Christ, a member of Eastern Star, and was employed by Owens Illinois Glass. We grieve the passing of an extraordinary mother and loving grandmother to Angela Cantrell, Laura Lee, Robert Nelson,(deceased), Todd Bresney, Melissa Niles, Alexandra Beevers, Gwendolyn Allen, Patrick Niles, Jonathan Niles, Tatiana Wallace, Terecina Niles, Jennifer Telfer, and Jacob Niles.  Twenty two great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren also survive.  

Cremation rites will be accorded and a service will be held at a later date.  Burial of ashes will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator.  Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator is in charge of arrangements.
