John A. Rubis, 76, of Liberty Village, Streator, died today Friday June 3, 2016, 5:14 am at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Funeral services will be Thursday 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Streator, with a visitation one hour prior. Rev. John Gutz will officiate. Military rites will be accorded by the Streator American Legion following the funeral. Cremation rites will follow the services. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday June 8, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Illinois Valley Brain Injury Clubhouse, his church or the Streator Lions Club.
John was born September 5, 1939 in Streator, IL to Andrew and Anna (Repko) Rubis.
Surviving are his siblings, Mary Lou Rubis, of Streator, Donald (Rose) Rubis, of Somonauk, Jean (Ron) Voights, of Idaho, three nephews, Tim, Bill and Bryan Rubis and a sister-in-law, Sharon Rubis, of Iowa.
His parents, and two brothers, Bob, and James (in infancy), preceded him in death.
He graduated from Streator High School, Class of 1957. John served his country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. John was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Streator, Streator American Legion and was a member of the Streator Lions Club for 45 years. He was employed by the State of Illinois Highway Department for 31 years, four and ½ months. Retiring in 2001. His passions in life were to play golf and take rail road trips.
