Leroy Persinger

Leroy E. “Cooter” Persinger Sr., 73 of Streator passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Ottawa.

A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 PM Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Hagi Funeral Home.  Cremation rites will be accorded.  Memorial contributions may be made in Leroy’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Leroy was born January 16, 1948 in Manville, a son of Allie and Lucille (Micheals) Persinger.  He married Mary J. Libby on June 9, 1989 in Streator.  She preceded him in death on December 10, 2010.

He is survived by his children, Anna (Steven) Miller, Chasity Persinger and Leroy Persinger Jr. all of Streator, Amanda (Russell) Koetz of Manville, Ashley (Joseph) Ahlfield of Grand Ridge, Brian Persinger and Michael Persinger both of Streator, Lisa VanWell of North Carolina and Debbie Moscote of Florida; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  Also surviving is a brother George Persinger of Springfield, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jim and Dick Persinger.

Leroy grew up on farms in Tennessee and Kentucky.  He loved the farm life.

He worked for Streator Brick for 35 years and had been a welding instructor for Woodland School.  He was proud of his garage and liked to work on motorcycles and fix anything made of steel in the garage.

Leroy loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles and was a member of the Screaming Eagles in Streator.
