STREATOR- Margaret A. Burkett 90 of Streator, formerly of Cornell, died Saturday evening (Feb. 18, 2012) at St. Mary’s Hospital, Streator.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Streator with Rev. John Gutz, officiating. Visitation will be from Noon-2:00 PM Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Cornell Cemetery. Hagi Funeral Home, Streator is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Burkett was born Nov. 8, 1921 in Streator the daughter of George and Mary (Mraz) Chorba. She married Clark Burkett, Nov. 25, 1943 in Streator. He preceded her in death Feb. 25, 2005.
Margaret had been a Tupperware representative for twenty four years in Cornell and Streator areas. She was a member Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and the Mary Martha Society of her church and the Livingston County Home Bureau; she was a former Livingston County 4-H Leader and served on the board of St. James Hospital Auxiliary, Pontiac. She attended Streator grade schools and was a graduate of Streator High School, class of 1938.
She is survived by two daughters, Michele Staley and Barbara Shambo, both of Simpsonville S. Carolina, two granddaughters, Tonia Shambo, Hayward CA and Jennifer Staley, Appleton WI, also surviving is one brother, Peter Chorba, rural Cheona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Elsie and Mary Chorba, four brothers, John, Andrew, George and Frank “Whitey” Chorba.
Pallbearers will be John Greenman, Kary Gamblin, Ben Burkett, Josh and Caleb Freese
