Mary (Hagi) Kerestes, 85 of Streator passed away peacefully Saturday evening (February 6, 2016) at her home, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, February 12, 2016 and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. John Gutz of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Chaplain Terry Ann Dumyahn of Vitas Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be her family and friends.
Mrs. Kerestes was born September 20, 1930 in Streator, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Farrington) Hagi. She married John Kerestes on February 6, 1951 in Streator. He preceded her in death on September 26, 2013.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Streator and a graduate of Streator High School before attending the U of I where she pledged Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She was the daughter of John “Jack” Hagi who opened Hagi Funeral Home in 1930. Mary and her late husband John became the owners of Hagi Funeral Home in 1975. Besides running the funeral home with her husband, Mary also enjoyed working for Kerr’s Jewelry store for many years.
She was a member of the PEO Chapter CM, Athena Club for 59 years, and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Streator. Mary thoroughly enjoyed her clubs and bridge clubs, Holy Trinity Church Quilting Group and sports, especially Golf.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Julie Hopkins) Kerestes of Greeley, CO and a son, Kyle (Jamie) Kerestes of Wexford, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, and a sister, Marge Remy.
