STREATOR- Mary Marlene Roberts 76 formerly of Streator died Monday afternoon (Sept. 23, 2013) at the Vinton Lutheran Home, Vinton, Iowa.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:00 AM Friday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator with Monsignor Philip Halfacre, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Thursday at Hagi Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4:00 PM Thursday. Cremation rites will follow the Funeral Mass.
Mrs. Roberts was born Dec. 26, 1935 in Streator, the daughter of John and Mary (Kolesar) Elias. She married James E. Hallam Dec. 31, 1955. They divorced in 1984. Mary then married Elmer F. Roberts, Dec. 10, 1985. He preceded her in death, June 22, 2007.
Mary had been employed at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. and Thatcher Glass Co. both of Streator prior to her staying home to raise her children. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church before moving to Iowa for long term care. She was a devoted, loving Mother to her 8 children and enjoyed playing cards, aggravation marbles, 10,000 dice and bingo. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary, both of Streator. She attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and Streator High School.
She is survived by daughters, Becky (Mike) Devera, Shellsberg, IA, Christina Andrews, living in southern Illinois and Kristal (Shawn) LeRette, Sheffield, sons, Jim, Terry and Chris (Melissa) Hallam all of Streator, Randy Hallam, Shellsberg IA and Jason Hallam, Huntington Beach CA, nine grandchildren, Jarod (Kate) Devera, Staci (Mark) Doering (Devera), Jimmy Hallam, Jesse Hallam, Michael Hallam, Amary Hallam, Robert (Hillary) Taylor, Bryan LeRette and Shayla Hallam, great grandchildren, Joslyn Hallam and Bryden Doering, one sister, Annette (Pat) Hatzer, Cornell, three brothers, Robert (Stella) Elias, Donald (Anna) Elias and Jack Elias, all of Streator.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one great granddaughter, Misty Lee Dawn Taylor, four sisters, Eva Kauth, Betty Louis, Lucille Rogers and Yvonne Ratliff and one brother, Louie Elias.
