STREATOR- Peter “Pete” Chorba 95 of Streator died Friday evening (Sept. 14, 2012) at Meadows Mennonite Nursing Home, Meadows.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Streator with Rev. John Gutz, officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to11:00 AM Tuesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial with full military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492 will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Hagi Funeral Home, Streator is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Chorba was born Feb. 28, 1917 in Streator the son of George and Mary (Mraz) Chorba.
Pete had been employed at Knoedler Manufacturing and Flink Co. both of Streator retiring in 1979. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and also a member for over 50 years of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post # 1492, both of Streator. He attended Streator grade schools and Streator High School. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army in Germany and France. He was a blood donor for many years having given many gallons.
He is survived by two nieces, Michele Staley and Barbara Shambo, both of Simpsonville SC and two great nieces, Tonia Shambo of Hayward CA and Jennifer Staley of Appleton WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Elsie and Mary Chorba and Margaret Burkett, four brothers, John, Andrew “Spinger”, George “Cherry” and Frank “Whitey” Chorba.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
