July 23, 1952 — December 11, 2024

Ransom

Randy Allen Stillwell, 72, of Ransom passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. He was born on July 23, 1952, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Charles and Beverly Stillwell (Farrell). He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and father to six children and twelve grandchildren. Randy was a fierce friend to so many in the community.

Randy devoted his time to helping others throughout his life. He was serving his second term as Mayor of the Village of Ransom, having served on the village board for over 30 years. He was a Boy Scout leader for 23 years helping to guide the youth of the community. He spent years as a foster parent and supervising at-risk youth with their community project work. They called him “Candy Randy” for all the decadent cakes and candies he made. He was “Handy Randy” to those who needed something built or fixed. However, his favorite nickname was “that chicken man from Ransom”, coined because of his activism representing his and other Illinois citizens’ rights to raise chickens. He was passionate about breeding and raising Araucana chickens to preserve the unique breed. He was incredibly proud of this accomplishment.

A celebration of life is being coordinated by local friends to be held at Kat’s ‘n’ Bags. The date and time will be announced on the Ransom community Facebook page when available. A private memorial will be held in Florida for family in the Spring near his favorite fishing spot where his grandfather, father and one of his brothers were placed in eternal rest.

Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator has been entrusted with his funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
